The Portland Aerial Tram

This fairly inexpensive date will take you and your spouse up, up and away! Located in Portland, the aerial tram offers spectacular views of the city and surrounding areas. Plan on doing this date at least twice in the year – once at night (to see the dazzling city lights) and once in the day to see the city, hills, and local volcanos (Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens). Begin the ride at the base of the tram (located off of SW Bond street), ride up to OHSU (Oregon Health Science University hospital), look around, take some pictures, and then ride back down when you are ready. Top off the date with dinner at nearby Spaghetti Factory and enjoy views of the Willamette while you eat. Check the website before you go (or call ahead) to make sure the tram is operating that day or evening – if it is too windy they shut it down for safety reasons. Don’t forget your camera and hold on (to each other) tight!

Relationship Reconnection:

Set a goal to compliment your spouse daily for at least one week. Keep a journal of the compliments paid and the reactions from your spouse. Do not seek to earn a compliment back – just focus on making your spouse feel good. You could compliment their style of hair, the clothing choice they made, the way they kept their cool when a rude driver cut them off in traffic, the tenderness they showed your child when the child was hurt or upset – you get the idea. Then at the end of the week review the entries and notice any differences in communication or reception in either you or your spouse. Being mindful of the good qualities our spouses possess, and vocalizing those qualities to the spouse, improve our mindset and attitudes towards them, as well as deepens feelings of love, gratitude, and respect for spouses.
